Signs

You could see it
in the way
their eyes refused to meet
for longer than a few seconds
afraid that they might not
be able
to keep their stares at bay

You could see it
in the stolen glances they managed,
in the way their eyes lit up in the others’ presence,
in the prolonging of pleasantries exchanged

You could see it

albeit implicitly
In the way she found small instances to be with him
for neither of them voiced their wishes openly

You could see it
in the everyday banter
in the silly questions he asked
an attempt to make the minutes last.

You could see it
in the run of emotions across her face
in the pause of her heart rate
When time slowed down
to her favourite seconds of the day
When she looked into his brown eyes
unafraid to look away.
